Table of content ABSTRACT I Introduction Intermodal transportation as the term is used today first gained currency in the 1960s when the use of trailer-sized containers began transforming the way freight is packed and loaded on trucks and ships (David, 1989). By the end of the twentieth century containers were carrying over 95% of general cargoes moving between continents and the percentage of other cargoes carried in container was steadily increasing as well. Containerization has profoundly changed this incremental conception of transportation. Through shipment from origin to destination is now emphasized, not the movement of goods by a series of independent modal carriers (Donovan, 1999). Containerization refers to the use of shipping containers and/or van trailers when used in conjunction with other means 代写essay of transport in the movement of goods. By this method, goods normally move from origin to destination without unloading or reloading. Van trailers, when carried by other means of transportation, such as railroads or steamship lines, are simply containers with wheels attached and therefore are properly included in the containerization concept (Rinaldi, 1972). The factors which may affect the development and efficiency of the intermodal transport have various kinds. After the research and study, mainly, the factors may be classified into two parts: macro and micro ones. Conclusion Above is the assignment that I may call them the factors which may affect on the development and efficiency of the intermodal transport. Enormous changes are taking place – and have already taken place – in the handling of goods, not only in the ports, but by truck, rail, and air, because of containerization and intermodal coordination. And as these changes take place, and efficiency and volume increase, new jobs are opening up for schooled and semi-schooled personnel to handle the new systems and the new thinking. |
