Today, creative thinking is a common phrase. As far as I can see, creative thinking is popularly defined as thinking beyond the usual. Many people think that only great minds have creative thinking. In fact, it occurs in all thinking process, including designing. According to Deniz Ozcan (2010), creative thinking is a thinking style, enabling individuals to produce new and authentic products, find new solutions, and reach a synthesis. And in the opinion of Aslan (2003), creative people need to have the ability to think fluently, authentically, and flexibly. Designing requires people to create things that are new, different and unique. From the above points, we can see that thinking creatively results in the trend of seeing things from a different perspective. Designing demands the same thing as creative thinking: to think in a quick, authentic and flexible way. That can improve work efficiency in the limited working time. Similarly, Lu Mingsen from China pointed out that creative thinking benefits people. His view is: creative thinking is such a kind of activity of thinking which enables our recognition and practices to achieve a breakthrough due to the driving of objective needs (Feng Guorui 2004). Designing, in other words, is the process of breaking the existing ideas. So, we can conclude that creative thinking is the creation or generation of ideas, processes, experiences or objects and the combinations of abilities, knowledge, values, attitudes, skills and processes (Coles, M 1991). It plays a very important role in both the whole design process.
