The album I select is named”1959 Jazz’s Greatest Year”, which is a jazz album issued http://www.szdhsjt.com/mgzydx/ by Sony music by various jazz artists. Considering the requirements of this assignment, I will choose the three songs of Charles Mingus as the research objects. This album is a traditional album with amazing songs and emotion. The basic information of this album is as follows: firstly, this recording contains the music of Charles Mingus, Gil Evans/Miles Davis and The Dave Brubeck Quartet. Secondly, as a famous jazz composer, Charles Mingus played an important role in the development of Jazz music. He is a great artist with the creation of many famous songs with bass and his soul.

The basic elements of this album are as follows:

This alum is a combination of three artists/brands. In this album, the style of jazz these three artists are greatly different. The emotion behind these songs is also different. These three songs of Charles Mingus are relax and casual without excessive skills. It plays with the bass (which is one of the most skilled instruments he use) and drums with a strong or fluent rhythm section. And, after people listened those songs, it is true that these songs are also featured with the bass and drums. These two instruments are also the basic instrument in the ordinary jazz music.
These selected three song from the album of 1959 Jazz’s Greatest Year are the collection of Charles Mingus at 37. In his opinion, it is necessary to insist on the personalized and original music and avoid the interference of the commercial operation. In his songs, he realized the combination of classics and jazz with a fluent rhythm. From these songs, people can understand and master the diversified influence of different music source such as Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker and Mexico folk music. The rhythm is strong and fluent and very easy to be attracted to this pretty melody and listened again and again.
For me, the song I like best is the second song ”Goodbye Pork Pie Hat”. It is not a happy song. As the title described, this song is filled with the sentimental mood, and the sax played in a blue and sentimental melody. After the second or third listening process, it demonstrated a sad and depressed scene for the listener.
The least favorite song in this album is the ”Boogie Stop Shuffle”. The reason is that even if this song is more famous than the other two songs, the rhythm and melody cannot attract me. We can know that there are many different instruments and changes of rhythm, but it emphasizes more on the style than the mood. Of course, the use of Sax, Bass and Drums are superb, and is an important material for understanding the characteristics of Jazz and the mood of composers.
